Airbag light stays on

It was fixed two years ago when it happened by mechanic, and don't know how or what it was that he fixed. He must have changed his number can't find him.

Welcome back to 2CarPros. Being this is a 1997 it shouldn't be hard to scan it and find the code that is turning on the light. That said it's a pretty simple system with just a steering wheel and passenger set of bags with a clock spring in the steering column for the wheel bag. However, just random testing could set off the airbags so using a scan tool is the best way to find the code and use that to point you toward the failed part.
