Been brought to a mechanic and said he doesn't know what's wrong with it and to bring to a Toyota service. Is there any way that I could check the issue myself?

Hi,

There are several things that can cause it not to work. First, do you know if the A/C compressor is cycling on and off when it's turned on?

Let me know. Also, if possible, could you let me know what the mechanic has already checked?

Here is a link for you to look through. It discusses the most common causes of A/C not working and what to check. Hopefully, it will help.

Let me know.

Okay, so I what I do know is that when it was brought in to the mechanic, he did fill with refrigerant so I guess that eliminates a possibility, but what I am seeing right now is the fact that the pulley on the compressor is incredibly wobbly. So I'm guessing that could be an issue?

Also it's not me who brought it in, I just got the car as a gift and that's what the previous owner said. I've checked all fuses related to the A/C system as well.

Hi,

Absolutely, the compressor pulley shouldn't be wobbly. Do me a favor, it could be the pulley is loose or the bearing in the compressor is bad. If that's the case, it will need replaced and the freon that was put in it has likely leaked.

If possible, make a video of the pulley when you see this happening. Then, turn the engine off and see if you can wiggle it with your hands.

I attached a pic below showing the pulley and clutch. If there is movement in the pulley, pay attention to the center of the pulley area. That is where the clutch is located. Does it move as well as the pulley?

Let me know.

Sorry I forgot to reply, but I managed to diagnose it after previous owner told me some stuff from when he went to Toyota service, they said faulty wire leading to pressure sensor. I checked the wiring harness that goes into the A/C pressure sensor and saw a wire was kinda loose, and once I got the wire reseated nicely in the harness now everything works. Thank you for your patience.

Hi,

I'm glad to hear you got it fixed. Also, I did watch the video. It looks like the pulley is out of alignment and causing the belt to jump around on the A/C pulley. Do me a favor. With the engine off, take a pic of the A/C pulley so I can see the belt on it. Also, make sure the pulley is aligned with all the other pulleys.

Let me know. Also, thanks for the update. I know it will help others.
