I RECIEVED A CAR FROM A FRIEND AND IT HAD BEEN PARKED FOR A YEAR AND WHEN I TURNED IT ON IT THE SERVICE LIGHT AND THE RESIVOIR CHECK LIGHT CAME ON I CHECKED WATER IN TANK AND IT WAS EMPTY AND THIER WAS SLUDGE IN THE TANK AND THIER WAS A SMALL AMOUNT OF WATER IN RADIATOR WHEN I REFILLED AND TURNED CAR ON THE WATER FROM THE RADIATOR DOES NOT FLOW INTO CAR AND THE FAN WORKS YET THE CAR DOES NOT OVERHEAT I THEN NOTICED OIL LEAKING OUT OF THE VALVE COVERS AND CREATING SMOKE FROM MANIFOLD IS THIS DUE TO LACK OF WATER AND AOVERHEATING ENGINE AND IS THE WATER PUMP BACKED UP OR OUT OR MY THERMOSTAT OUT SOMEONE HELP

Hi MAMBO1234,

The oil leaking should be due to a bad valve cover gasket and replaceing it should solve the problem.

The loss of coolant should be checked as some hoses or connections of the cooling system might be leaking. You should top up the coolant, bleed the system and then test drive the vehicle. If you wish to have a fast answer, a pressure test of the cooling system would be recommended.
