Hello, I just replaced my A/C compressor pulley and clutch it seemed to have worked yesterday. I've got about.40 on my feeler gauge in between the clutch and the pulley. But for some reason this morning it was cold but when I started it up it started smoking a little, it wasn't dumping out but it was just smoking a little. Is that just the break in period or?
Thanks, Zach

Good morning,

The clearance should be around.017. If you have the large gap, it may be from trying to pull it in and it is not engaged and is slipping.

Spec from Ford. A/C Compressor Magnetic Clutch
Air gap clearance. 0.35-0.65 mm (0.014-0.026 in)

.017 is preferred.

I mean I know it's going to get hot because of friction, but I was just wondering if it was normal?

No, it is not normal.

Set the gap and see if it still smokes.

So I should set the Gap at.017 even though the spec says different? Just clarifying.

The spec says 14 to 26. The recommended is 17.

Yes, set it to 17.

I set the Gap at.017, and it seems to have fixed the problem. But it's still getting a little hot. Is that just because it's a moving part? And also keep in mind I drove it for at least 25 to 30 minutes.
