Same Problem and Symptoms as Farmersride post A/C clutch slipping. I did almost all the same things he did before looking at his post. I did not see any follow up questions or the result of what he found to be the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Good afternoon,

Is the belt tight? A weak tensioner will cause this issue.

Also, if the air gap between the plate and the clutch is too large, it will do it as well.

Lastly if the high side pressure is too high, it will cause this. Can you give me the high and low side pressures while it is running?

Roy,

Thanks for your response. It is not the tension because I can see the clutch start and stop and the belt keeps turning. Also the clutch plate is 60 thousandth. When it is working right at an idle it is low side 45 high side 225 ambient about 90. I have not been able to catch the pressure when it was not working. Only quits at higher speeds or under load. I can usually start to feel it getting warm then sometimes I smell like the clutch is burning. I can slow down to 25 or 35 and it usually comes back after I turn it off and on again. The original clutch opened about six months ago. I put a second on and it slipped until the bearing burnt out. Now this one is doing the same thing but I have learned to turn it off slow down and cycle it until it works again. I have been tempted to rig up the gauges while driving on the freeway so I can catch it while it's happening.

Okay, the clearance is incorrect for the plate.

It should be.017 between the plate and the clutch assembly.

Thanks. I will set it at, 017 and see if that helps. It only happens once in a while but being from Las Vegas in this heat it is not a good thing.
Thanks
