Loud knocking and seized up while driving

We purchased this vehicle yesterday that had an apparent loud knock that I had figured we could repair once we got it home. The drive home was one and half hours and it seized up fifteen minutes from the house and quit running. Faint smell of burning, no smoke noticeable. What am I dealing with?

It is kind of hard to tell without actually opening things up and looking. But you are probably looking at rebuilding the engine. It will be considerably cheaper to buy a used one and have it dropped in. You can find a used engine on car-part. Com and have it shipped to you or your mechanic.
