Does a 1993 Explorer XL 2wd fit on a 1994 Explorer XLT 4x4? Can I just disconnect the 4x4 if need be?

Good afternoon,

No, it will not work. The A4LD has a different output shaft for the transfer case.

You will need the correct transmission. Check on this site, www. Car-part. Com

You can eliminate the transfer case but I would just consider getting the correct transmission.

No, they are not compatible. With 4 wheel drive the trans output shaft is different as I stated. This is the real world, not the internet.

Yes, you can eliminate the 4 wheel drive and use the 2 wheel drive transmission and it will work.

I didn't meet you in the real world. And FYI thanks for the information over the internet. All I needed to know was if the transmission lined up with the block and I am deleting the 4x4 transmission completely. Throwing the 1994 transmission away and installing 1993 2wd transmission in with out any 4x4 involved. Sorry I am not trying to be rude I am just frustrated.

No worries at all. I hate it when the internet gives all the inaccurate information to people trying to help themselves.

It will bolt up fine.

Can I remove a 1994 Explorer 4x4 transmission and transfer case and install a 1993 2wd transmission into the 1994? I am completely removing the 4x4 system.

Hello, I am Danny.

They both are the A4LD model transmission so in theory it should work. Since you will be eliminating the transfer case you will need to use the rear driveshaft from the 2wd Explorer due to the added length needed. Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions if needed. Thanks for using 2CarPros.
