I am reading some of your responses to a 2002 blower motor that has four wires coming out of it. From what I can tell the resistor is incorporated into the blower motor housing thus you will have a 4-pin connector, to go into the motor and to going to the integrated resistor and also will solve the problem of trying to find the resistor or the output control which don't exist on this 02 model. I'm not sure what the common denominator is or how to even look it up online this conversation is the closest thing I found to be incorrect what the guys are finding apparently is very unique and I'm not quite sure why they have not sent you a picture of the motor what's a 4 pin connector? Can I take a integrated resistor motor and replace it with a two pin connector motor and cut the wires and put a resistor in play somewhere? Otherwise dealership has my motor with the integrated resistor for $700.00.

I you might be able to wire a new resistor into the system. Here is the wiring diagrams for the blower motor so you can see how to work and the resistor locations to get you started. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

Had this same problem on my 2002 mini r53. I fixed the issue without buying a new $850 blower motor from the dealer. It was not easy to say the least, but here's how I did it.

1st step is to go to a junk yard and completely disassemble the dash to a 2003/03 or newer mini with the 2 pin connector for the blower motor. The HVAC/stereo wiring harness is what you're after. This harness is extremely difficult to remove and requires almost complete disassembly of the the dash. You do not need to disconnect the ac lines but you will have to get into some very tight spaces to allow you to feed the harness out from behind the HVAC unit. You will need the resistor as well.

With the harness and resistor you can wire in the 2 pin blower motor on your mini. Completely disassemble the dash to your mini and begin the replacement of the wiring harness. Same steps that you used in the junk yard apply here. The mounting bracket for the resistor is molded into your hvac box on the passenger side but it has not been cut out for the resistor to fit. I used a soldering iron with a flat tip to cut out the inner section of the molded bracket so that the resistor could be mounted. Once complete you can use the new harness to wire in a 2 wire blower motor. This process took around 10 hours of work and a ton of mechanical know-how but it is possible. Good luck to whomever has this problem and doesn't want to spend $800+ for a dang blower motor.
