I need to replace my vehicle's keys for the second time since it's going bad.
In both the OEM and first replacement keys, a number 378 is embossed on the keys as encircled in picture. I suppose at the second replacement too, 378 will appear on the new keys too. Of course, the track or code on the keys are different as it should be.

What that number actually refers to or what it denotes?

That is the key blank part number, basically it tells what keyway and number of cuts that key can be used for in that key manufacturers system. However it is not a universal number across all manufacturers so it only applies to the keys that are made by that company. That same key blank style is a HY-20PT in ilco numbers and a BK14TK13 in another.
