I have one original key. Can I program another key myself if I have only one original for this vehicle? If so, can I have the step by step procedures to program the key myself at home without the use of any special tools? I am hoping there is some sort of key on key off etc. Procedure available. Also, on this car I do not see any flashing red security light anywhere inside the car when car is locked. I know possibly some cars do. Mine does not. However, I am sure it is still a chip key which requires programming.
Thanks in advance

Not with only a single key, you need a scan tool to program in any extras. However an auto locksmith can usually do it cheaper than a dealer. The cars with flashing lights usually have the contents anti-theft systems, the ones without normally only have the engine immobilizer.

If I had two original operable keys then is it possible to program without a scan tool? As I mentioned, I only have one original operable key.

You still couldn't add a new key, however you can program the remote fob if you have two good keys. That allows the replacement of the fob head or battery. But you still need the scan tool to initialize the key itself.

This is the programming in the book:

1. Begin with the key out of the ignition.
2. Unlock and open the drivers side door.
3. Within 5 seconds insert the key into the ignition and remove it twice. Do not turn it.
4. Close the drivers door and open it twice.
5. Insert key into the ignition then remove it. Do not turn it.
6. Close the drivers door and open it twice.
7. Insert the key in the ignition and leave it in. Do not turn it.
8. Close the drivers door with you inside.
9. Now turn the key to ON, then back off.
10. Remove the key and you should hear the locks cycle as it enters programming mode.
11. Push and hold both the lock and unlock buttons for 1.5 seconds on the first remote being programmed. Release the buttons and push the lock button for 2 seconds.
12. The door locks should cycle to confirm successful programming of the remote. If you have any additional remotes to program repeat step 11 on each of them.
Once you have the remotes programmed open the drivers door to exit programming.
