Reccomended replacement of belt AND tensioner is 60,000miles that may be the problem.

I have had a similar problem this week.

I went to Cornwall on Wednesday to pivk up my step daughter. An hour from home (midlands) I noticed a metalic sound like a knocking around the engine.
My car is scheduled to go for a service tomorrow - unfortunatelybefore my journey.

I returned home and not used the car since accept for twice to my lical shop a mile away. I had hoped that the knocking was the heat shield - I noticed it was loose a couple of weeks ago when I had tyres replaced and an oil change. Unfortunately that mechanic was unable to tighten this up for.

Anyway, my second little journey to the shop was today - I didn't make it!

Half a mile from home there was an almighty noise - I half expected to leave my exhaust behind as blavk smoke started to come from the back. I was on a roundabout at the time I managed to pull over as the oil light came on and the within seconds the battery light and my steering locked as I lost power.

The recovery bloke said that my engine is dead - as it had blown a hole in the bottom of the engine.

I had no warning lights prior to it going bang!

It's a 2009 model and only 61,000 miles.

Hi, the oil was changed and filter two weeks ago. I checked it on Thursday and it was on max.

The oil light came on just after the bang as when the engine burst I think it must have ripped the oil tank too as oil track behind me for the yards I managed to limp it and a big pool where it stopped. Engine sprayed now in oil.
It literally was on seconds.

Hi thanks, the mechanic said it was possinle something like that which may have happened. But I guess my question is why?

It's not like I don't look after it. Spent 1k on general maintenance since August so apart from possible exhaust in its service tomorrow I wasnt expecting anything.

2 years ago I had issues with the injectors. It kept stalling on me with no warning at all regardless of the speed. Once just after coming off the motorway. Maybe I just got a jinxed engine?

Well if you had injector trouble it's possible it thinned the oil out and did some damage then. Also it depends on what type of oil you used and filter. Some are better than others. Oil and filters.

Well that's good to know thank you.

If this could be an effect of past issues that occurred whilst in warranty.

I had to kick up a lot of fuss at the time due to personal safety and the small matter of the AA recovery bloke wanting to take pictures of my breasts, which meant I was stranded at a Ford garage 40 miles from homeas they told me there was a courtesy car waiting for me. There wasnt.

Or I could go back with the AA creep. My partner was in Afghanistan so I was stuck.

It was two weeks of hell. 3 trips to the garage with the same fault.

Finally they brought the car back to me as still no courtesy car. Accept they arked the car 3 roads away and posted my keys through their letter box!

Just as well I found it before they got home and moved it with the spare keys.

So i'm pretty sure the manager at that dealership won't be happy that i'm having issues again and potentially because his staff screwed up further than either of us hoped at the time.

Funny you didn't complain to AA about that, that is pure sexual harassment. Also if you need amotor there are plenty of engine rebuilders or garages that will do this work for you and possibly cheaper than a dealer will

I did report to the AA. It was the PA to the Managing Director who responded because of the severity. I was even able to say pictures were on his work phone as opposed to personal iphone, so his wife couldn't find them.
This is after a man having a go at me for breaking down on a bridge the night before and when I tried to explain he was ignoring me trying to make me prove that I was stupid and hadn't put petrol in.

I don't upset easily, but this was the third time post a service i'd broken down in a week.

But customer service these days tends to be about we will prevent this from happening again. Not that it should never have happened in the first place. Or we are sorry it happened to you.

So really not looking forwards to this week. I wanted to be as knowledgable as possible before.

If you actually took the pictures then i'd contact a lawyer let him go after the company especially that you can make damn sure that won't happen again. Good luck

Well the verdict from Ford was they weren't prepared to do anything.

Dealers would give a small contribution to the cost of complete engine and injectors needing replacement.

By the way the cost is  7,600. Seems like injectors problems again that caused the engine to blow.

You already said ford wouldn't do anything besides 2 yrs ago the injectors may have ben cleaned not replaced as they do get dirty and partially clog sometimes. Due to you have ing 67,000 miles on it and hving no idea what your warranty was like maybe 36,000 as I dont' know if you bought the extended warranty or not. Or if it is even available there in the UK I think you are at. I would check into anengine rebuilder oif they have them there as it may be cheaper and they will warranty the engine. It may be like 2000 GBP cheaper instead of the dealer. Good Luck as I have nothing else to say about this.
