Hey,

the neutral safety switch is located on the side of the transmission right under the gear selector arm it is help on by two 15mm bolts but you must remove the arm first, here is a wiring diagram so you can test the wiring to help fix the problem.

Transmission problem
2001 Chevy Impala 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 160000 miles

Where is the neutral safety switch on a 2001 chevrolet impala located? I was told inside the transmission. That the transmission needs to come out to replace it. I'm about 99% sure thats incorrect. So "Help".

The park / neutral position switch is located INSIDE of your vehicle's transaxle and it will require a lot of labor hours to replace.

You can't simply bypass the neutral switch. The computer uses that sensor for many things beside cranking. If you used a different transmission, it my not even be compatible with the operating system.

At times vehicle will not start in "Park" and has to be shifted to "Neutral" I am concerned that in the future vehicle will not start in "neutral" either. I don't want to get involved with transmission. So my thoughts would be to disarm neutral switch

Thanks for your reply
