Had car on computer. Read bad catalytic converter. Replaced exhaust from manifold to muffler. Replaced plugs. Replaced fuel filter. Still no power. Exhaust "puffs" so I put a paper towel at tail pipe, it blows out and sucks in. Valve problem? Note- transmission seems to stay in 2nd gear and speedometer doesn't work now. Also, the power steering light is on.

I would have it rescaned for codes especially since the speedo is inop. That will effect the transmission shifting. As far as the engine having bad valves you can check the valves with a vacuum gauge do a vacuum reading at idle. If the vacuum needle is wildly left to right you have a valve issue.
