2006 Pontiac Grand Prix, won't crank. When I turn the key, all lights go out and I hear a single loud "click" from engine compartment. Lights come back on when key is released. Battery is fully charged and OK. There has been no damage to the car. Previously there have been no problems with starting. What might be the cause of the engine not starting?

You have a bad or corroded battery cable connection. To prevent a bunch of computers from locking up and needing a real expensive trip to the dealer, connect a small battery charger to keep the computer memories alive, then remove the battery cables at the battery and the under-hood fuse box, to clean and tighten them. Be careful that the positive cable doesn't touch anything metal.
