Should I trust the dealership?

My car was making a ticking noise in the front and I thought it was because I had bad gas in my tank. The ticking occured while in first gear and was mostly while I was going up hill. I brought it to the dealer just in case and they told ne that it was my timing cylinders were loose and it needs to be fixed or my engine will die. It is going to cost me $1700. Since I got rid of the gas in my tank and filled with a good quality gas the noise has gone away. Do you think my cylinders ads really loose?

Did they really say "timing cylinders"?
What does it say on the paperwork that they gave you?

This makes more sense now. The estimate seems a little high, but it is close to the normal range. Timing chain guides can cause this type of noise as well so they are probably right.
As long as them seem like they can be trusted to do the job correctly you might want to have them do it.
You also might want to get a second opinion simply because this is an expensive job. It might be worth it just to be sure.

I would go get a second opinion on this, if the noise does not return I would not be spending serious dollars on this, but a second opinion would not hurt, get a qualified tech to listen to the noise, if it returns and advise you on what they feel is the problem.
