Compressor and Pulley needed replacement?

Aircon has stopped working - service dept diagnosis was Compressor and Pulley needed replacing (condenser was fine). No after market parts for diesel, so was going to cost around $4000! Sanity check please - is that about right? Or are there non-genuine parts that can be used in the 2006 Mazda 6, can I do the job myself?

Hello,

The A/C compressor can be replaced in a relatively short period of time depending on your comfort level. It is not terribly difficult.
In order to replace the AC compressor, you will have to remove the drive belt. Also, the system needs to be properly evacuated before taking off the lines.

Here is a helpful article that goes over the basics of a compressor replacement:

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.

Good morning,

I attached the steps for replacing the compressor below. Make sure you add the correct amount of oil, or the new compressor will fail.
