Where is the Bank 2 Sensor 1 located? OBD P0153 Code. Just want to be sure to order correct sensor. Also how do you identify the right or left side -from the driver's seat or facing the engine. Thank you.

Hello,

The oxygen sensors are located just before the catalytic converter and just after. The sensor one is closest to the engine. Here is a guide that will give you an idea of what you are in for when doing the job.

Here is a guide to help you raise the car up.

Here are the diagrams showing the oxygen sensor location on both the 4 and 6 cylinder engines. (the 4 is first set and the 6 second)

Check out the diagrams (Below)

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Hello I have a 2005 Kia Sportage v6 2.7L. I need to replace
Oxygen Sensors Bank 2 Sensor 1 and Bank1 Sensor1. I have read so many conflicting threads on the internet on where these are located and where Bank1 and Bank2 are located. I hope you can help me.

I have read that Bank1 is firewall side on both passenger and driver side. I read that Bank 2 is firewall side on both passenger and driver side. I read that Bank 1 is passenger side and Bank 2 is driver side. I read that the Banks are split. So Bank 1 is passenger side and extends to the front of the vehicle and Bank 2 is on drivers side and extends to front of vehicle.

I won't even go into what I read about where the Oxygen sensors are. I am getting writers cramp.

PLEASE SET ME STRAIGHT ! Thanks, Tim

Hey Timclark,

Here is the straight talk on what oxygen sensor is what.

Both oxygen sensors that are before the catalytic converters are sensor 1. For example Bank 1 sensor 1 is the first sensor on the side with the number 1 cylinder. Oxygen sensors after the catalytic converters are number 2. For example bank 2 sensor 2 is the sensor after the cat on the opposite side of cylinder 1.

Hope this helps.

Upstream is above the cat converter on the manifold and down stream is after the converter.

You need a 7/8 wrench for the o2 sensor

I bought a used Kia Sportage and it looks like they tried to remove the o2 sensor by the engine and damaged it. Can I just unplug it? And how can it be removed if it is so badly damaged?

O2 sensor is an integral part to your emission system. Unplugging it will cause the check engine light to turn on, and you will have driveability issue. You have to remove and replace with a new unit. It is quite possible that the sensor has rusted in the exhaust manifold. While the engine is cold, you should spray some catalyst/rust eater such as PB Blaster (no, WD40 won't work) and use a proper O2 sensor removal tool to safely remove the sensor from the exhaust manifold.
