My manual shift on occasions rolls me into fourth without letting me shift into second gear. What could be the problem? It also makes a clunking noise when I shift. The dealer said this was normal but I have had manual Corvettes before and have never heard this sound. What could be the cause of this?

Actually it is normal. The vehicle will determine the vehicle speed and do a second gear bypass. If you are just doing city driving it will happen. If you have you foot down it will allow 2nd gear
