Smoke started coming from the engine area and after the car cooled off for a few hours my heater isn't working and my temperature gage goes from C to H pretty fast. What could be the problem?

Low coolant from a leak, which caused the smoking. Do not overheat it as you may damage the motor

Check the radiator fan. Mine went out shortly after purchasing my car and I ended up replacing the fan and air conditioning system when the sensor in the fan melted a bunch of wires. No warning lights came on except the temp gauge shot up the red line
