What type of front brake pads shall I buy for my 2005 Pontiac Vibe? $18.00 semi metallic, 30.00 ceramic, or 50.00 pads? Mike Ellis

Generally speaking, the less expensive pads are equivalent to original equipment. No name brand manufacturer is going to produce anything of lower quality. The difference you will likely get is resistance to squeaks and squeals with the more expensive pads. Also keep in mind the manufacturer of the vehicle spent a lot of research time and dollars designing the front and rear brakes to be matched for even braking without easy wheel lockup. The cheapest pads will be able to make the brakes lock and the tires skid. There isn't any reason to look for higher friction pads. The brakes will just lock up easier. That will change the front-to-rear balance.
