Took it to AutoZone to read the codes and will not power up scanner, same with Advance Autos. Why won't it pull the codes. Check engine light is on. Check gas cap light on. Start up in the morning fine but drive it 10 miles and let it set for 15 minutes to 30 minutes, won't start, turns over. On the highway runs great for an hour and acts if i'm running out of gas, then back fires a lot pull over and turn it off. Won't start, turns over. Give it about 30 minutes or longer to rest and starts up like nothing is wrong with it.

Are they using the cigarette lighter for power if so does the lighter operate? You may have two use a adapter and run the power from the battery.

Did not use lighter for power, but it does work. They did try to use three different tools. First one was a Actron PocketScan code reader, Than a Actron/OBD II and CAN PocketScan plus, And last one was Actron AutoScanner PlusTrilingual (OBD II, CAN and ABS) Scan Tool and still could not power up or read the code and even check it on his own 2006 Pontiac G6 and work great.

They have to use the lighter or the battery to power the scanner up.

Good afternoon,

I attached the diagram of the data link connector.

Pin 16 or the one on the right at the bottom should have battery voltage all the time. I attached a diagram of the pin for you. It is powered by the fuse shown. Check for power to the fuse.

Once you get power to that terminal, they can access the ECM for codes. Once you know the codes, let me know so I can further help.
