It may be a bad gas pedal due to being drive by wire. Check unit at top

I kind of doubt it but clean it with choke cleaner on both sides if you think it is. It sounds more like the resistor in gas pedal is the cause.

I think your right about the resistor, click is coming from under dash where pedal linkage is.
How would WD40 work? Or silicon spray?

They would both short it out then you would need a new gas pedal
