My car makes a loud clicking noise when trying to start. The battery seems to be dead but will not hold a charge, the one time I did get the car jumped, it stalled as soon as the jumper cables where taken off. What is t his?

At five years old you might just have a bad battery. Use an inexpensive digital voltmeter to measure battery voltage with the engine off and with it running. A good fully charged battery will measure around 12.6 volts. If you find around 11.0 volts or less, suspect the battery. With the engine running you must find between 13.75 to 14.75 volts. If it is low, we have to make a couple of tests on the alternator.
