I have a 2001 chevy Malibu and the blower moter won't work. The problem has been ongoing and gradually got worse. The blower moter did not blow on speeds 1-3 (5 total) Now it won't blow at all. If I push on the speed dial it blows momentarily, but as soon as I stop pushing the blower stops. It is acting like the switch in the dash is not making contact, but I am not sure if I need to buy the control panel or a transistor? Do you think the transistor is bad or the switch in the control panel?

If it doesn't work on high speed it 's not the resistor. If you have a test light, pull the plug on the blower and turn the switch on. If the test light works then it's the blower motor. Make sure to test the power in all positions as you could have a two fold problem. If the light doesn't work then it's probably the control switch.

With the blower motor on high check the purple wire to the blower motor for battery voltage and the white wire for a 2 ohms or less to ground use the 200 ohms setting on the meter to check the ground. Let me knowwhat you find.

OK my niebors not home or I would ask him. But on the meter he gave me I have under ohm's I have RX1, RX10 and RX1k. Settings. Assuming I use the RX10 setting I get 5ohm on the white cable no matter what I set the heat at or if the car is on or not. On the purple wire I get 4 ohm on every setting except with the car off and no key in the ignition then it goes to about 18 ohm.

The purple wire were not going to be checking for ohms to ground. The meter will be set to 20 volts DC vikts scale. Put the key in the run position turn the blower fan on high ground the black wire of the meter. Hook the red lead of the meter to the purple wire terminal at the blower motor connector. You should see battery voltage? Sounds like you have a ground on the white wire. Let me know what you find so far we might have a bad blower motor control module.

Yes I do see the meter move a bit under the 20volt section of the meter. When set exactly as you suggested above.

I figured it out. On top of blowing the fan I also blew a 30 amp fuse located under the hood. The one place I hadn't checked for any blown fuses. Thanks for all the help!

Electrical problem
2004 Chevy Malibu 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Like to know how to take out blower fan cover on the passenger side out to check the resistor for blower motor
This is located right under glove box
Two clips in front come out easy, but there seems to be another clip in the rear toward door that is holding and can not see how to release it without breaking anything.
Thanks for any feed back
Original problem was battery draining to the tune of 4 amp with car off, and caused by fuse #19 run relay under hood, which seems to control blower motor.

Hey, how you doing today? If that is the original blower motor, My info shows you cut the blower motor out, utility knife. You access from underneath dash.

Make sure the blower motor is faulty before you do anything. I can't see what your doing, all I can do is go by the database. Also you can go to the autostore, tell them you want to look at a new blower motor for your vehicle. The hardware and instructions that come with the new blower motor should give you an idea. Tell them you just want to look at it right now, buy later, maybe. They always let me look at the part without buying, If I'm not sure about something.
