Is there an optimum speed to set the car heater? Is having it on HIGH harder on the unit? Is having it on a lower setting harder on it?

Hello,

The heater should be set at the temperature and air flow that is comfortable for you. You will have wear and tear on any components due to being used. There is not really any 'good' speed for the blower fan to operate. Keep in mind that the setting that are available falls well within the operational efficiency range for that given blower motor, regardless of the speed. Running it at higher speed on an electrical motor does not necessarily make it wear our any faster than running at low speed. But with anything high speed will generate high heat. But the fan itself acts as a cooling system for the motor so that is not really an issue with a blower motor.

Your vehicle should be equipped with automatic climate control. You can simply leave it at auto for the fan speed and select the desired temperature. That way the vehicle will determine the optimal fan speed for the temperature.

Hope this answers your questions.
