How do you remove upper ball joint after removing the nut?

You got the ball joint out of the knuckle?If so then you remove the snap ring from the ball joint press to press the old one out and press the new on in. They rent the press at auto zone.

IN THESE PICS, WE WERE PRESSING THE BEARINGS IN MY '77 CJ 5 T-150 TRANSMISSION. WE USED THE SAME CLAMP TO DO THE BALL JOINTS OF MY DAUGHTER'S '95 EXPLODER. WE DID HAVE TO JACK IT UP REAL HIGH, AND PLAY WITH SOCKETS 'TILL THEY FIT INTO PLACE. WE USED VARIOUS LARGE SOCKETS TO PUSH WITH AND ALSO TO RECEIVE THE JOINTS AS THEY WERE PUSHED THRU. I would just rent the the ball joint press it has the adapters etc no socket's to worry about and is made for the job. Some of the ball joint's can be pretty tight.
