We went to change the brakes on my 2004 Chevy Tahoe and noticed that the rotors were cracked

Hello,

The rotors can crack due to being below thickness specification. They can also crack if the breaks have been heating up excessively.

You will have to replace the cracked rotors. You do want to make sure that the brakes are not sticking causing them to overheat and crack. Check the thickness of the rotors. If they are below minimum thickness, then they are likely cracked due to being too thin.
If they are above minimum thickness, then there is a chance of overheating brake or simply they are defective rotors.
Another possibility if you tend to tow quite a bit it can over work and overheat the brakes as well and lead to premature failure.

The discard thickness for the front rotors are 27.50 mm (1.083 inch).
