2.7 Engine. We went to replace the water pump, and putting it back together tensioner broke. Then replaced that and it bent the valves. We put new valves, tensioner, timing chains etc, on it. All new. It starts but it's so sluggish. It had been sitting for a few months but now we're at lost with it. Any ideas?

Hello,

Unfortunately that's what happens to no tolerance engines when they jump time. Although these engines are zero tolerance for the timing being off, causing the pistons to hit the valves, bending them, as you know, they will tolerate being off a tooth or two on the camshaft or crankshaft sprocket. I would recommend double checking the timing and make sure that the marks are exactly lined up. In the diagrams down below I have included a guide from the vehicle manufacturer on how to remove and install the new timing belt on your vehicle. Please go through this guide, double check the ignition timing, and get back to us with what you find out. We can go from there, if necessary.

Thanks,
Alex
