2003 Volkswagen Passat P2181 Code

I understand an "engine cooling systerm performance" problem. Possibly the thermostat, CTS, or even the waterpump. Also it could be the electrical connector between the CTS and the ECU or cooling fan. Will this be or could this be a very expensive job?

Most likely it is a faulty thermostat. Engine does not get hot enough or stay hot enough at cruising speeds.

That code is set when coolant temp drops below 80c AFTER the engine has fully warmed up past 87c to 90c.

Shouldn't be too expensive.
