Hello,

The camshaft sensor is located at the rear of the engine on top here is a guide to help walk you through the repair with diagrams below to show the location.

Hello!
I own a 2002 Taurus with 86,000+ miles on it. The engine is the DOHC V6 (Duratech 30, I believe). I have had an incresingly frequent problem with the engine misfiring, exasperated when a load is on the engine at idle (AC, defroster, etc). Had the codes pulled, and received a 0316 - camshaft position sensor (done at a national AP chain store). Seems to make sense, but I am having difficulty locating proper repair information for this problem. I am fairly confident that I can perform the repair myself, so long as I don't have to spend hundreds of $$$ on specialty tools. It is my understanding the part runs about $140, but that most often the culprit is simply the electronics at the top of the spine.

I would appreciate very much the input of an expreienced machanic on this issue. Thank you in advance for taking the time here.

According to Mitchell, no special tools on the DOHC models, only require a synchonizer on SOHC models!
