2003 Chevrolet S-10 keeping engine running

I Ran Out ta Gas. Didn't have a gas can so I used bottles From my recycling to put gas in tank. My truck won't start it turns over and then suddenly sputters to off. Is it the fuel filter? Or something more complex. Help please I have court tomorrow: (

The pump may be bad due to running out of fuel. Try smacking the tank with a rubber mallet or back of hand sometimes it will start and run but don't know for how long. But have fuel pressure checked.
