If I let it sit for an hour then it will start right up?

My 2003 Cadillac CTS stops working and shuts off mid drive without any symptoms. When I try to start it back up it cranks but does not fully turn over. If I let it sit for an hour then it will start right up

Hello,

The issue does sound like a faulty crankshaft position sensor.
The crank sensor can go bad overtime and that will cause it to send incorrect data to the ECM. Which triggers the engine shutdown. After the shut down the engine may or may not start.

Take a look at these helpful guides:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/symptoms-of-a-bad-crankshaft-sensor

I have attached the crank sensor replacement procedure below for your reference.

Let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
