Engine light is on, after replacing the clutch on Jetta 1.9 TDI

I just replaced the clutch and now the engine light is on. Also the engine now starts without depressing the the clutch pedal down. It appears to drive ok.

Check the speedometer connection. The car is starting because the clutch interlock safety switch is stuck in the "Start" position. Look under the dash at the top of the clutch pedal. You will see a plunger switch. It should move freely. If you do not see this switch, it is a pressure switch within the hydraulic system. Look for a sensor with lectrical leads on or near the master cylinder. This probablay why you are throwing a trouble code.
