My car was fine for about 3 months and then it would have problems accelerating it would slow down and then out of no where go really fast, and then my car would start shaking a lot and it would be hard to accelerate and then it would slow down and not go up, then it started getting smoky so I figuered it was the spark plugs and cables I got them changed and the shaking kind of stopped but then after a few days it started happening again this time my car would turn of on me completely and not turn back on, it over heats but I always keep water in it and I already changed oils. When I have my car in park it sounds like a claking or a a diesel truck and smoking. Can anyone tell me what it can be I'm tired of buying the wrong things. And shops are a little pricy.

Do you have a check engine light and when was last tune-up?

Could be caused by one of the following below

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Crankshaft position sensor
Knock sensor
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing.
