The expansion valve is at the firewall but you must vacuum down and recharge the system once the job is done. Here is a guide and diagrams below to help you see the location and what it takes to change it:

Thanks for this post. I got the job done cost me $78.00 for the expansion valve and $32.00 for the 134a. I love this site!
