I have a 2002 Hyundai Elantra. I shifted it down from 3rd to second and it got stuck in 3rd. I popped the hood and checked the shift linkage. I was able to push it into third and start the car and move it into neutral. It then got stuck in neutral. I can only shift gears by getting out of the car and pushing the shift linkage into the correct position while it is not running.

Sounds like you have a clutch assembly problem

When engine is not running, are you able to use the shift lever to shift into each gear?
