I can close the hood the latch moves like it should by it's locking down. It doesn't seem like the cable is broken but the lock isn't catching.

Hi,

I doubt the cable is the issue. What I am thinking is there is a lever on the latch assembly that will corrode and prevent the hood from latching. What I recommend is this. Check the cable where it attaches to the latch to see if it is causing something to stick in the open position. If the cable is loose and not restricting the latch, there is a lever behind the larger spring in the front that corrodes. When this happens, the hood will not lock down. Take a look that the attached pic I attached. Behind the larger spring on the front you will see a lever. Spray it with a penetrating oil and then have a helper hold the hood release open. Then, move the lever back and forth to loosen it which will help remove the corrosion. Once it becomes free, the hood should latch.
