What causes you not to be able to make your car change gears out of park?

It starts just fine and when I step on the brake to switch out of park it wont let me puch the **** in to switch it?

Check your brake lights if its working if so could be the shiftlock solenoid that's causing it

On top of the gear shifter is a small white tab if that is not pressed down when you press in the shift release button on the left side it will not change shifter out of gear
got to be carefull when doing this cause you can rip the wires from the o/d button and cause it not to function anymore
ok so as shown in the picture the mans finger is point out where the hex screw is located at it turns to the passenger door to loosen keep loosening till it is all the way out. Then try tapping with you hand on top of the shifter try hitting down on the shifter and see if it trys to shift if it does then with force hold down on the shifter while you replace the hex screw back into the screw hole and tighten it by turning it to the drivers door till it is tight caution to not over tighten the screw and it should work for you
