I have a 2002 Trailblazer LTZ and the oil gauge just started randomly dropping to 0 when the engine is at idle speed. When I hit the accelerator, the pressure returns to normal. The "Check gauges" light and the "Stop Engine" computer message comes on when the pressure drops. Oil level is fine, Oil pressure has been checked and is OK. The oil sending unit has just been replaced. Still having the same issue.

Boy that was a job but Im glad I did it because the oil pan was full of sludge I cant believe the oil pump could work at all. I cleaned the pan out and the oil pump pick up and now it works great! Thanks for the tip and the diagrams I love this site.
