Will a bad gas cap prevent the car from starting? The radio, seats, and windows work. When you turn the key it does not even click. All I hear is the fuel pump. The engine light came on before due to the gas cap. There were no symptoms before this that there was a problem. The car has been running fine until now. What else could I check. Battery has charge and the alternator was checked and is good. Wires on starter were checked and they are fine.

What about your security system? You could crank it remotely, but, if security system issue, even if you crank it, it still won't start. Any testing at the starter or anything, make sure the tranny is in park or neutral and a functional parking brake is set.

Did you check for voltage at the starter? The black wire is battery voltage, hot all the time. The purple wire at the starter goes hot with the key in the crank position.

Have a helper turn key to crank, while you check voltage at starter circuit. Use a digital multimeter.
