I drove a few hundred miles over the weekend no problem.
When driving to work yesterday in heavy slow traffic my car engine temp increased a lot and I had to turn it off at traffic lights etc to stop it overheating. Was fine when moving.
Checked oil. Low so I topped it up
Coolant (red) was between the min and Max but the top was off when I looked.
Drove to and from work today fine but traffic was not as heavy.
Fan stayed on for a few minutes when I turned engine off.
Heater is not working.

The way you describe it there could be a couple of things, The thermastat could be going bad, a clog in the system or something blocking the radiator from getting air through it. No heat and system full of coolant I would look at the thermastat.
