I am looking for a reasonable time and cost estimate for the replacement of the water pump and thermostat.

It will take about 3 hours to change the water pump (according to an auto repair labor time guide), about.7 hours for the thermostat. Total time estimate 3.7 hours.
The cost of the repair varies depending on the shops' labor rate. (I've seen them around $65 per hour at independent shops to $140 per hour at dealerships and the can go higher) So call a few shops to see what their labor rates are in your area.
