Problems with acceleration

Hey there, my girlfriends car has been having a problem getting acceleration, almost like the car was in a low gear. Also, last night it died, once it started it ran bogged down like it had to much fuel. I could smell the fuel as well there were no leaks underneath the car and after it died again the fuel smell was gone. Any ideas?

Check fuel pressure with a gauge auto parts rent it. See link. could be either a pump or regulator.
