2001 Dodge Ram trouble?

I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500. The other day I was driving up in the woods and it just stopped moving and would rev up. Would slip into gear kinda and move for about a hundred feet before the problem happened again to get it out of the woods for a tow. Ideas? Have not had it to a mechanic yet

Take a look at the transmission fluid. See if it is black, sticky or has a burnt smell to it. It sounds as if the transmission may be going out. Have it checked soon, and do not attempt to drive it, as this can cause more problems.
