Dodge Intrepid Bus code

I have a 2001 dodge intrepid 2.7 throwing bus codes. I've been told its the pcm/ecu. Any way of telling the serial number without pulling it out. I have the vin number. I'd like to see if I can just replace it and see if that fixes the problem. VIN #2B3HD46R01H558224

The new PCM would have to be programmed and that isn't the only module that can give you a BUS code.

I went to the faker to see if they could do it and was told they couldn't communicate with it. What else could cause it?
