2001 Chrysler Sebring car wont start

Car has 2.7 24 dohc motor the wire concocts to starter trigger term replaced starter battery repair wire coming from starter trigger connection and has melted again will have to pull down stator to repair it what could be causing this problem?

Check to see If the wire or one of the connecting ones has hsorted out against the block. Also check starter for draw and clean battery terminal ends as well as ground on engine block
