EGR CODE, ROUGH IDLE AT TIMES

Working on a 01 impala and driver says idle is rough. It seems to idle good now. I checked the codes and I get code p1404. Can I do a harness check. Or what do what would you recommend?

Has the EGR been replaced? The connectors checked for problems?

No, the EGR has not been replaced. Can you supply wiring diagram for the EGR connector? Thanks

If the replacement of the valve did not correct your condition, then you need to have the
computer(pcm) re-programmed with a software update. The update fixes a pintle position
problem that the pcm expects to see, but does not.

Or the EGR passage is plugged with carbon and needs to be cleaned.

I just talked to the driver and he said that the security light was on around the time it was not idleing at all.

I dont think EGR would cause this unless it stuck open.

The security light tells me it's probably an ECM issue.

Have you scanned it for 'soft' codes, the ones that don't show up during a normal code scan?

Our reference shows it to be an EGR closed error. You'll need to use a good scan tool and verify the EGR position.
