Automatic Transmission. Engine idles OK, but the power is very low when it goes into forward gears. Reverse has a bit more power. The car cannot go up a small hill. My mechanic thinks the problem could be caused by the ECU or a transmission problem. What do I check to identify and solve the problem?

Start with a check for trouble codes.

Here is what the mechanic is getting on his scanner:

Engine Speed Mal 1(TDC, G1)

The mechanic does not know where to look for the problem. He thinks that it is related to the transmission because the car is not shifting gears automatically. We cannot achieve revs greater than about 2000 RPM. Any ideas as to where to look for this problem?

I need the OBD-II codes. The codes you have provided is not helpful.
