Periodically, all power in car goes out, the ignition will not engage and the car will not start. When I move the battery or shake the fuse link on the positive terminal most the time power returns. I think the problem is in the fuse link. 1) what is the function of the fuse link?
2) What is the procedure to troubleshoot?

The function of the fusible links is like your house main circuit breaker-it distribute power if its blown or loose connection at the link and battery positive post it will not pass power to the vehicle's electrical system.

To test use a test lite and probe both side of the link-you should have power on each end of the link-sounds more like a loose connection

A melted fusible link can be detected either by visual inspection or by feeling with finger tip. If its condition is questionable, use circuit tester or test lamp.
