2000 Mazda Protege

I have a 2000 automatic protege and on the heater controls 1, 2, 3 and the A/C doesnt work but the 4th setting and defrost do. Can anyone give me a little insite as to what might be the problem. Please and thanks!

If this is the blower motor settings that have failed on low speed settings, it will probably be the fan speed resistor that has failed, I will have to go check on its location.

It will look like this, you will only see the black section screwed into the heater box.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the glove compartment.
Remove in the order indicated in the table.
Install in the reverse order of removal.
